Today I had a patient explain to me the details of her dream about nearly all the teeth on her upper right side falling out. The dream continued as her entire upper jaw was being consumed in the process. She woke up and thought she needed to call me and make an appointment. Later she described how she did a Google search on the dream and it turned out to be extremely common. This is one of the oldest dreams they can remember having studied going back to the1800s. It has been associated with a high degree of stress in one’s life.

While I have never personally had this dream, I have heard many patients describe the same dream scenario to me. I also remember Tony Soprano having a similar dream during one of the many stressful times in his life. My recurring dream involves an airplane crash. That’s a little more dismaying for me because I like to fly and I know that any dental condition that I may have can be taken care of by a friend in the profession. I wonder if the fear of flying and the fear of going to the dentist are related somehow in our subconscious? Have any of you had any such dreams?
